blueskysapphic:

this might be too much for the white lgbt community to wrap its head around but “representation” in its most basic form (i.e. an lgbt character existing, a lgbt relationship existing) is not inherently beneficial and good for lgbt people as a whole. it can actively harm the most vulnerable members of our community instead of normalising our relationships, struggles, joys, and identities.

i have no patience for “maybe next time the relationship presented won’t be one grounded in racism &/or abuse” or “maybe next time the so-called representation will represent lgbt people of colour as worthy of respect and possessing innate humanity”. because the “maybe next time” always includes a “support this show and its -radical representation- despite your misgivings!”

it’s not -selfish- or -traitorous- for lgbt people of colour to want representation that doesn’t hurt and dehumanise us lol.
