You can talk about how there was no time, or no other options, but Clary and Jace left Dot and Gretel behind. Gretel, who was innocent, was just killed by prejudiced, violent Shadowhunters. And Dot has been left to endure Valentine’s heinous torture, blackmail, and manipulation once again. 

It’s not good that characters of color (especially women of color) are treated as disposable like this. It really isn’t. Dot is the reason Clary survived in the first episode of the first season, and Dot is once again the reason Clary and Jace could actually escape! They completely ignored Gretel. So much for Clary being the ~figurehead~ of a “new” generation of Downworlders. 

Maia has every right and is absolutely justified in being angry and wanting to seek blood. The Shadowhunters have been treating the Downworlders so unfairly from the start - even the “good” Downworlders like Clary and Jace, who care more about themselves than Downworlders. Isabelle is still the only Shadowhunter who has proven time and time again that she resists this prejudice. And look at Luke, Magnus, and Simon: all three of them are Downworlders, all three of them know about and have suffered under this prejudice, yet all three of them do the best they can to help EVERYONE and try not to leave anyone behind. 

Ignoring these racist actions or justifying them is racism.
